The Power of “All In” Faith

Trust is not true trust unless it’s all in. If you really trusted someone, you could trust them with five-million dollars just as much as you could with five dollars. Yet we get the idea that you can partially have faith in God.

In John 2 Jesus turned water into wine. He asked the servants to fill the jars with water, and it says that they “filled them to the brim”. They didn’t have faucets. They had to go to a well, let down the bucket or jar, then hoist it back up time and time again.

On top of this, they also had to haul all that water to the wedding celebration, which we can’t necessarily guess was close to the well. That’s a lot of work and water is not light. How easy would it be to simply fill the jars, rather than fill them to the brim?

These men must’ve really trusted in Jesus. They knew he was about to do something and they wanted to be as invested in it as possible. This is faith.

Say the world’s best investor came up to you and told you to jump on a great opportunity. He tells you to invest in a particular stock for the next week because it’s about to spike. If you absolutely trusted this guy, you’d go all in so as to not miss out on the reward. Why don’t we do the same with God?

When God calls us to take part in the great commission and reach out to the lost, then why not go all in? There’s a reward waiting for us that is far beyond anything we could ever imagine. God doesn’t call us to do something because he wants to control our lives. He calls us to something because he desires our best. He sees huge opportunities and wants us to be a part of it.

I’m not saying he’ll bless you with money, that spouse you’ve been longing for, or an easy job. The biggest and most important blessing that you are guaranteed to receive as a result for stepping out in faith is a closer relationship with him. The more you jump out in faith, the more you’ll learn to trust God. Inevitably, you’ll grow to love God as you see how much he cares for you and desires good for you. Only out of a true relationship with God can we find true joy and deep peace.

But all this requires faith. Tentative faith is a step, and God will work with that, but all-in faith moves mountains, test God in this. You’ll see.
